The Kheleyf winners keep rolling in

Winner number 24 for Europe's leading first-season sire; more black type for Refuse To Bend

Kheleyf's latest first-crop winner is Captain Ramius, a colt bearing the colours of Mrs Clodagh McStay to win by two-and-a-half lengths on his first racecourse outing.

Bred by P G Lyons from the Muhtarram mare Princess Mood, Captain Ramius is the 24th winner for Kheleyf, who is the leading sire of two-year-olds in Europe. His nearest challenger in the race for the first-season sires' title is Australian's Champion freshman sire Exceed And Excel, who has 16 winners in Europe, including Saturday's G2 Lowther Stakes winner Infamous Angel.

Fellow Kildangan resident Refuse To Bend has sired seven individual winners to date, with two of those both being narrowly touched off in Stakes races in the last few days. On Saturday, Canwinn was beaten a short neck by Sokar (Slickly) in the Criterium du FEE at Deauville while today, Favourite Girl was a neck second in the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Ripon.
