Khawlah, a three-year-old daughter of Cape Cross, became the 36th individual Group winner for her sire and provided Godolphin with a treble at Meydan on 24 February, landing the G3 UAE Oaks.
Settled just off the pace under Frankie Dettori, Khawlah cruised to the lead at the top of the straight and was soon clear of her rivals, easily holding the odds-on favourite Mahbooba to win by a length and a quarter. Electric Waves, by Exceed And Excel, was third.
This was her second career victory, having won at Newmarket in September of last year, a win which she followed with a third place in the G3 Oh So Sharp Stakes at the same course the following month.
Bred by Darley, Khawlah is out of the winning Selkirk mare Villarrica, herself a granddaughter of the great Urban Sea who is of course dam of Cape Cross’s outstanding son Sea The Stars.
Cape Cross sired no fewer than 14 individual Black type winners last year, including G1-winning duo Behkabad and Able One. He stands at Kildangan Stud in Co Kildare.
