Trainer Bryan Smart made no secret of how impressed he was with Exceed And Excel's yearlings when shopping at the sales last autumn and he is likely to be doubly thrilled now as he has sent out two of the three northern hemisphere winners by the first-season sire.
On Friday, Excellent Show followed the example of her stablemate Spin Cycle, both of whom are owned by Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, with a decisive two-length win at Mussleburgh, following up on her tidy debut at Thirsk a fortnight previously, in which she was second. Her trainer clearly thinks highly of her as he admitted he would have been devastated had she not won, and she now heads to Royal Ascot for the G2 Queen Mary Stakes.
Excellent Show, a 96,000gns yearling, was bred in partnership by Bearstone Stud and T Herbert Jackson from the Primo Dominie mare Quiz Show, the dam of juvenile winners Right Answer and Twenty Questions.
Sales company Magic Millions held its Weanling Sale on Australia's Gold Coast earlier this week where six of the seven Exceed And Excel foals offered sold for an average of A$173,000 (£83,600) with the top price bing A$360,000 (£173,700).
