In Italian followed up her victory in the G1 Diana Stakes with another impressive wire-to-wire win in the G1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday, 8 October.
Despite bobbling slightly at the start, the four-year-old daughter of Dubawi went quickly to the front and was allowed to set a comfortable pace while leading by about a length. In Italian increased her lead heading into the far turn and was about two lengths clear as the field entered the homestretch. She then had to dig in late, but still had plenty in reserve to hold off her rapidly closing stablemate, Regal Glory, to post a one-length victory.
Bred in Great Britain by Fairway Thoroughbreds, In Italian is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Florentina, winner of the G3 Gold Coast Guineas and second in the G2 Furious Stakes in Australia. Florentina, a half-sister to G1 WATC Railway Stakes winner, Gathering, is also the dam of G2-placed Villa Carlotta (by Street Cry) and Stakes-placed Fasano (by Lonhro).
Dubawi, who is enjoying an exceptional season, has sired seven winners at the highest level this year, including Coroebus who was successful in the G1 2,000 Guineas, St Leger hero Eldar Eldarov, dual G1 winner Modern Games who won the French 2,000 Guineas and Woodbine Mile and G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes victor Naval Crown.
