Dubawi’s four-year-old son Glorious Journey added a third Group victory to his record in impressive fashion at Newbury on Saturday, 17 August with a gutsy win in the G2 Hungerford Stakes.
Charlie Appleby’s charge was settled in third under James Doyle and began to make headway at the three-furlong marker. Taking the lead two furlongs out, Glorious Journey battled superbly to keep previous G1 winner Librisa Breeze at bay, eventually winning by half a length. Safe Voyage (Fast Company) continued his successful season when taking third.
Glorious Journey won the G3 Prix de la Rochette at two, before landing the G3 Prix Daphnis at Deauville last year. Another trip across the Channel could now be on the cards, with a tilt at the G1 Prix de la Foret cited as a possible target.
Bred by Normandie Stud, Glorious Journey is out of the G1 Coronation Stakes winner Fallen For You and is from the family of Lockinge Stakes hero Fly To The Stars.
Dubawi has now sired 19 individual Group winners this year, headed by G1-winning trio Coronet, Old Persian and Too Darn Hot.
Also on Saturday, Teofilo’s evergreen son Flight Risk won his third Black Type contest of 2019, taking the Listed Platinum Stakes at Cork.
