Exceed And Excel's two-year-old colt Helmet stamped himself as a contender for this year's Australian champion juvenile when landing his second G1 victory in the space of two weeks, when victorious in the Champagne Stakes at Randwick over a mile.
A winner of the Sires' Produce Stakes over a furlong shorter on April 9, he was sent to the front from the gate by jockey Kerrin McEvoy and never saw another rival, winning by one-and-a-half-lengths.
Bred by Darley Australia, Helmet is out of the Singspiel mare Accessories, making him a half-brother to the Elusive Quality G3 winner Bullbars, who ran a close second in this seasons Australian Guineas.
Exceed And Excel, who stands at Dalham Hall Stud for £12,000, if currently the leading sire of juveniles in Australia this season. From his European crops he has sired 15 juvenile Stakes horses from his three crops to race.
