Happy Clapper became his sire Teofilo’s 50th Stakes winner when the talented gelding showed his fighting qualities to win the G2 Villiers Stakes over a mile at Randwick on December 12.
Happy Clapper settled forward of midfield for jockey Brenton Avdulla before being produced for a run closer to the rails in the straight, hitting the front and holding off the late challengers for a strong win.
Happy Clapper has now won six of his 12 starts and demonstrated his ability as a young horse with a G3 placing as a three-year-old.
A homebred for Mr M Thomas, Happy Clapper is out of race-winning Encosta De Lago mare Busking, a daughter of Stakes producer Winifred’s Prayer, who is the dam of dual Stakes winner Thankgodyou’rehere. Busking also has a yearling colt by Teofilo.
Teofilo, now the sire of 50 individual Stakes winners, has enjoyed a great year on the racetrack. He has sired multiple G1 winners Pleascach and Kermadec among his 20 Black type successes in 2015.
Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud for €50,000 October 1st, Special live foal.
