Golden Horn recorded a new Stakes winner in scintillating fashion on Thursday, 20 August when his three-year-old daughter Gold Wand showed an impressive turn of foot to win the Listed Galtres Stakes on the second day of York’s Ebor meeting.
Prominently ridden under James Doyle, Gold Wand took up the running a furlong from home and kicked away impressively to win going away by a length and three quarters.
This was the second career win for Roger Varian’s charge, who was second in the Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes, also at York, on her previous start.
Gold Wand was bred by Brucetown Farms Ltd and is out of the G2-placed multiple winner Los Ojitos.
Golden Horn is also sire this year of G2 Prix Greffuhle second Influx, plus fellow Group performer Gold Maze.
This season, Golden Horn has sired more three-year-old winners over 10 furlongs or more than any other stallion, bar fellow Derby winners Galileo and Sea The Stars. His strike rate in this category is an exceptional 39.2% - a figure which can only be bettered by Sea The Stars.
