G3 victory for Mekong Melody

Fourth black type win for daughter of Cape Cross

Mekong Melody, a five year-old daughter of Cape Cross, continued a highly successful run in 2010 with victory on Saturday in the G3 Long Island Handicap at Aqueduct, New York.

Her three-and-three-quarter length strike represents her second Graded Stakes win since relocating to the US in 2009, having been bred in Ireland by her owner David Egan. Mekong Melody won the G2 Dance Smartly Stakes in July and landed her second consecutive victory in the Flaming Page Stakes in September. From 21 starts, she has now won seven and been placed another seven times.

Mekong Melody is just one name on a long list of Stakes winners for Cape Cross this year, with other top-flight performers including G1 Grand Prix de Paris winner Behkabad and G1 Champion’s Mile hero Able One while his Group Two winners include Crystal Capella, Treat Gently, Capecover, Crossthestart and Cape Dollar.

Cape Cross stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland where he is available to breeders at a fee of €35,000, October 1, Special Live Foal.
