Ghaiyyath, a son of Dubawi, produced a stunning run to win the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden on Sunday, 1 September at Baden-Baden. A winner of the G2 Prix d’Harcourt earlier in the season, the four-year-old colt made virtually all of the running under jockey William Buick. Proving too good for the chasing pack, Ghaiyyath was eased down in the final half furlong to finish an astonishing fourteen lengths ahead of his closest rival Donjah (Teofilo).
Bred by Springbank Way Stud and sold as a foal for €1.1million, Ghaiyyath is a half-brother to the G1 winning filly Zhukova. They are out of the Galileo mare Nightime, winner of the G1 Irish One Thousand Guineas, who is the best performer from the Listed winning Indian Ridge mare Caumshinaun.
This was a second Group win in the space of a few hours for Dubawi who enjoyed earlier success with his three-year-old son Moonlight Spirit taking the G3 Prix de Lutece. Ghaiyyath also became his sire’s 41st individual G1 winner and his fourth G1 winner in 2019 alongside Old Persian, Too Darn Hot and Coronet.
