Fourth Group victory for Opinion Poll
Halling’s wonderfully consistent son Opinion Poll added a fourth victory at Group level on Dubai World Cup night with a gutsy win in the G3 Dubai Gold Cup.
Sent off the odds-on favourite, the Mahmood al Zarooni –trained entire was sent to the front as the field turned for home and opening up a clear lead in the straight, stayed on brilliantly to win by three-quarters of a length.
His victory was the third on the night for the Godolphin team and followed Monterosso’s outstanding win in the Dubai World Cup, which provided Dubawi with his eighth winner at the highest level.
Opinion Poll has an outstanding record, finishing out of the first four just once in 24 starts. His previous Group wins were in the G2 Lonsdale Cup (which he has won twice) and the G2 Goodwood Cup. He will now be aimed at the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, where he will aim to go one better than his second place last year.
