King's Best's flagship colt Workforce, returned to the track with an excellent win on Thursday May 26, when he beat a top-class field in the G3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown. Penalised seven-pounds for his G1 wins in last seasons Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, he came clear with pace-setting Poet in the final furlong to record a one-length victory, with a mammoth 11-lengths back to the third, the G1-winning Jan Vermeer.
Owned and bred by Prince Khalid Abdulla, Workforce is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Soviet Moon, an unraced full-sister to Classic winner Brian Boru, who also has a juvenile colt by Halling, named Moonship, in training with Sir Michael Stoute. The King's Best-Sadler's Wells cross is responsible for seven Stakes winners including the G1-winner and Haras du Logis stallion, Creachadoir.
King's Best, who stands for €15,000 at Haras du Logis, sired two Derby winners in 2010, Workforce, and Japanese Derby hero Eishin Flash. Both are from his excellent 2007 crop which includes eight Stakes winners with a further eight Stakes-placed horses.
