First Victory, a two-year-old daughter of Teofilo, successfully stepped up in class and retained her unbeaten record in fine fashion on 9 October when landing the G3 Oh So Sharp Stakes on the opening day of the Dubai Future Champions Meeting at Newmarket.
Always prominent under William Buick, Saeed bin Suroor’s charge travelled well throughout the seven-furlong contest and quickened superbly coming out of the dip to win by a length.
First Victory broke her maiden at the first time of asking, winning over the same course and distance just over two weeks ago. Her victory today has earned her quotes of around 20-1 for next year’s 1,000 Guineas.
First Victory is out of the Dubai Destination mare Eastern Joy, making her a half-sister to Shamardal’s multiple Group winner and 1,000 Guineas third Ihtimal. The mare is also dam of another Black type performer in Always Smile (Cape Cross). They are from the family of the great racemare and Irish Derby and Epsom Oaks winner Balanchine.
Teofilo is now sire of 17 Stakes winners so far this year, including dual G1 winners Pleascach and Kermadec.
