Fast Company added his second two-year-old Stakes winner of the month on 22 November when his son Red Onion gained a well-deserved first win at Black type level, landing the Listed Prix Herod at Chantilly.
Held up towards the rear early on in the seven-furlong contest, Red Onion was pushed along a furlong from home and acting well on the heavy ground, swept home to win by a head.
This was Red Onion’s fourth career win, with the colt also having twice been placed at Stakes level this year. Incidentally, Fast Company’s subsequent G1 winner Jet Setting finished third in this race last year.
Red Onion was bred by Mr T de La Heronniere and Mme M J Goetschy and is the second winner from two foals to race out of Capsicum (Holy Roman Emperor). They are from the family of G1 winners Vin de France and Neatico.
Fast Company, sire of the aforementioned G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Jet Setting, plus G1-placed G2 winner Devonshire, is also enjoying a successful sales season so far with his yearlings selling for up to £110,000. He was also responsible for the highest-priced foal on the opening day of last week’s Goffs November Foal Sale.
