Exceed And Excel's tally of first-crop winners in Europe increased to 16 on Monday when the much fancied Exceptional Art posted a scorching debut success at Windsor.
The white-faced chestnut colt hit the front with a furlong (200m) to run and soon pulled well clear of his rivals for an easy six-length win. Bred by Mascalls Stud from the Polar Falcon mare Only In Dreams, Exceptional Art is a half-brother to St Leger Yearling Stakes winner Cape Fear, by Cape Cross.
A 40,000gns ($91,000) St Leger yearling purchase himself, Exceptional Art is also entered in the sales race along with the G2 Champagne Stakes and G2 Mill Reef Stakes later in the season.
Exceed And Excel is second behind only fellow Darley stallion Kheleyf in the first-season sires' table for Europe.
