Exceed And Excel gelding wins Magic Millions

Two-year-old Le Chef produces the goods on the Gold Coast

With no sire having more runners in this year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic than Exceed And Excel, it was fitting that his two-year-old son Le Chef proved successful, capturing the $2 million contest at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Winning impressively last time out over the same course and distance to assure his place in the final field, the Darryl Hansen-trained runner settled only a few lengths off the leaders, having jumped away well from barrier 3. Producing for a well-timed run by jockey Luke Tarrant, Le Chef surged to the line to win the Restricted Listed event by three-quarters-of-a-length.

Bred by Mr Hicks of South Australia, Le Chef is third foal and winner out of the G1 placed Testa Rossa mare Red For Lou.

With Exceed And Excel’s nine yearlings sold over the first three days of the 2015 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast selling up to $400,000 for Lot 271, the Champion Sire has one final lot to sell during the night session, Lot 637 from the draft of Amarina Farm.

Le Chef is the second Stakes winner in the space of two days for Exceed And Excel after the G3 victory of Mamwaazel in the G3 Belle Of The Turf at Gosford, taking his overall Stakes tally to 92.
