Exceed And Excel enjoyed a very successful Saturday on 30 June, adding not one, but two new Black Type winners to his record.
Two-year-old filly Royal Intervention certainly looks like one to watch in the future as she utterly dominated in the Listed Empress Fillies’ Stakes on Newmarket’s July course.
Soon in front under Gerald Mosse, the Ed Walker-trained filly was in command throughout and once asked to quicken a furlong from home, eased clear to take the six-furlong contest by four and a half lengths.
Slade Power’s promising daughter Strings Of Life, who became her sire’s very first winner back in April, gained her first Black Type when taking second.
Royal Intervention was bred by the Exciting Times Partnership and is out of Exciting Times, making her a half-sister to four other Black Type performers including G1 Beverly D Stakes winner Gorella.
Later on the same day, three-year-old colt Julio recorded his first Group win when taking the G3 Hamburger Flieger-Preis by a head from Celebrity (Shamardal).
Bred by Gestut Brummerhof, Julio is the first foal to race out of the Stakes-placed Beat Hollow mare Julissima, who hails from the family of Melbourne Cup hero Rekindling.
Exceed And Excel is now sire of 11 Stakes winners so far this year, including multiple Group winner Heavy Metal and smart filly Threading, winner of last year’s G2 Lowther Stakes and second in the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out.
