They say breed the best to the best and hope for the best and in the case of Miss Andretti’s mating with Exceed And Excel, there’s every reason to hope for a very fast horse indeed.
The offspring in question, who is the first foal for the outstanding racemare, arrived two weeks late and caused a few problems in his delivery but has delighted the team at Toolooganvale Stud.
Managing owner of the mare, Sean Buckley, told The Age newspaper: ‘He was two weeks late so we were getting a little anxious and then it was a difficult birth because the foal presented the wrong way around.
‘They tell me he is a good size and has straight legs and both of them are fine so I'm really happy.’
During a stellar career, Miss Andretti, a daughter of Ihtiram, took out five Group One sprints in Australia and travelled to the UK to win the G2 King’s Stand Stakes (now a G1) at Royal Ascot in 2007. Exceed And Excel now has third-crop runners on the track in Australia, where he has been leading first- and second-crop sire in the past two seasons.
