Benbatl has been a wonderful campaigner for both Dubawi and Godolphin and on Thursday, 9 January he made a winning 2020 debut with the easiest of victories in the G2 Singspiel Stakes at Meydan.
Leading from the off under Christophe Soumillon, Saeed bin Suroor’s charge was in command throughout the one-mile contest and was still on the bridle approaching the final two furlongs. Once asked for his effort in the home straight, Benbatl could not have been more impressive as he eased clear of his rivals, eventually winning eased down by four lengths.
Benbatl now has eight Stakes victories to his name, including the 2018 G1 Dubai Turf, which he won en route to victory in the G1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis and the G1 Caulfield Cup later that year. Last year he won the G2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket by no fewer than five lengths.
Benbatl is out of the multiple G1 winner Nahrain (Selkirk), herself a daughter of Oaks runner up Bahr.
Benbatl is one of 41 top-flight winners for Dubawi, who stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £250,000, Oct 1 SLF.
