Dubai-based Malih Al Basti, a Meydan board member, instructed his racing manager Adam Driver to go to £140,000 in securing the top lot of the DBS breeze-up sale, a colt by second-season sire Dubawi (pictured).
Consigned by Con Marnane's Bansha House Stables, the colt is the first foal of Improvise, a Stakes-placed daughter of Lend A Hand from the family of Blue Duster and Zieten, and was one of only five lots to break the six-figure barrier.
Dubawi was second only to fellow Darley stallion Shamardal in last year's first-season sires' table, and with 31 juvenile winners to his name, was leading first-season sire by number of winners. That vein of success has continued in 2010 with his scorers including Sunday's Italian 2,000 Guineas winner Worthadd and the G3 Prix Djebel winner Makfi.
The fourth top price of the day at Doncaster was given for a colt by Darley America's first-season sire Henny Hughes. The Grove Stud-consigned juvenile is out of the Kingmambo mare Jive Talk and made £110,000, while a filly by Royal Applause out of Sablonne (Silver Hawk), was picked up from the Mocklershill draft for £78,000.
