Dubawi, even by his own high standards, made an outstanding start to this year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, with the Dalham Hall Stud resident responsible for all three seven-figure lots on the opening day.
Offered by Hazelwood Stud, Dubawi’s colt out of Alina, dam of St James's Palace Stakes hero Barney Roy, eventually went to Godolphin for 3.6 million guineas to become the highest-priced yearling sold in Europe this year.
Earlier in the sale, David Redvers and Kevin Ryan each went to an even million to secure colts out of The Fugue and Without You Babe respectively.
There was also success for New Approach, when Hascombe and Valiant Studs’ colt out of Token Of Love (from the family of Rebecca Sharp) was knocked down to Godolphin for 320,000 guineas.
Meanwhile, Golden Horn has four yearlings sell for a very healthy average just shy of 200,000 guineas, headed by Deerfield Farm’s colt out of Always Remembered, who went to Stroud Coleman for 300,000 guineas.
The sale continues today.
