North America, a son of Dubawi, has been a revelation on the Meydan dirt for the past two seasons and on Saturday, 10 March he landed his biggest prize yet when never seeing another rival in the Al Maktoum Challenge R3. Jumping quickly from the gates under Richard Mullen, he gradually wound the pace up round the bend before running on very well to record a five-and-a-quarter length triumph over Helmet’s gallant dual G1-winner Thunder Snow.
He was completing a Group double on the Meydan card for Dubawi after Jordan Sport’s record-breaking G3 victory in the Mahab Al Shimaal.
Bred by Qatar Bloodstock, North America is a son of the G1-placed mare Northern Mischief, a half-sister to Champion US performer Gourmet Girl.
Dubawi has now sired 34 individual G1-winners including Hunter’s Light, Monterosso, Night Of Thunder, Poet’s Voice and Postponed. Dubawi is covering this season at a fee of £250,000 Oct 1, Special Live Foal.
