Dubawi sired his first Group winner of 2022 when his four-year-old son Naval Crown put up an impressive performance to land the G2 Al Fahidi Fort at Meydan on Friday, 21 January.
The Charlie Appleby-trained colt ran on eagerly in the final furlong when asked under jockey William Buick to run on clear of the field just before the line. Having placed in Group company on four occasions and run a close fourth in the G1 2,000 Guineas Stakes, this was a well-deserved win at this level.
Bred by Godolphin, Naval Crown is out of the Stakes-winning Dansili mare Come Alive, herself a daughter of the Stakes-winning mare Portrayal.
Dubawi is the sire of an impressive 143 Group winners, and concluded 2021 with a world-leading 38 Stakes winners, matching his previous career best in 2019. The super sire’s hot year included becoming the first stallion ever to sire three G1 Breeders’ Cup winners in the same year, led by new Darley stallion Space Blues.
Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket, for £250,000, Oct. 1, Special Live Foal.
