Dubawi sired yet another Group winner at Meydan on Friday, 18 February when his progressive son Lazuli gave a top performance in the five-furlong G2 Blue Point Sprint.
Settling into the race in midfield, Lazuli ran on eagerly in the final furlong under William Buick to land the contest easily by a length and a half.
Trained by Charlie Appleby, Lazuli has already proven himself to be a Black Type performer in Europe, having landed the G3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket and the G3 World Trophy Stakes at Newbury. Following a second place in the six-furlong Listed Dubai Sprint at Meydan last month, the step back in trip to his favoured five-furlongs seemed to suit him on the day.
Bred by Godolphin, Lazuli is out of the Stakes-winning mare Floristry, herself a half-sister to G3 winner Zibelina and the dam of Listed winner Inspiriter and Stakes-placed Bouquet De Flores.
Dubawi is the sire of an impressive 144 Group winners and concluded 2021 with a world-leading 38 Stakes winners, matching his previous career best in 2019. A highlight of 2021 for Dubawi was siring three G1 Breeders’ Cup winners in the same year, led by new Darley stallion Space Blues.
