Diplomat, a German-bred and trained son of Teofilo, scored his first Group victory on Sunday when triumphing in the G2 Premio Presidente della Repubblica at Capanelle in Rome by an easy three lengths.
The five-year-old had previously enjoyed his best result when third in the Darley-sponsored G2 Oettingen-Rennen at Baden-Baden last season, but had demonstrated that he retained his ability this season when third in a G3 contest in Dusseldorf on his latest start last month.
Bred by Gestut Rottgen out of the G3 sprint winner Desidera, Diplomat is a half-brother to the Stakes winner and German Derby runner-up Dickens and to another Stakes winner Daressalam (Singspiel).
