While all eyes this weekend may be on Her Majesty The Queen’s son Dartmouth in tomorrow’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, it was another Royal runner by Dubawi who landed the feature race of the evening at York when three-year-old filly Diploma took the Lyric Fillies’ Stakes.
Always close to the pace under Ted Durcan, Sir Michael Stoute’s charge took up the running two furlongs from home and soon drew clear of her rivals, eventually winning by three and a quarter lengths from Teofilo’s useful daughter Fireglow.
Owned and bred by HM The Queen, Diploma is out of the multiple Stakes winner Enticement (Montjeu) and is from the family of G1 winners Green Tune and Pas des Reponse.
Dubawi is now sire of 16 individual Black type winners so far this year, including Dubai Sheema Classic and Coronation Stakes winner Postponed and G1 performers Sheikhzayedroad and Time Test.
