A determined performance by Diamond Thunder to win Saturday’s Listed Brian Crowley Stakes has given his sire Dawn Approach his 12th Stakes success.
In a grinding finish, Diamond Thunder asserted himself in the final 30 metres to win by three-quarters of a length from Cardiff with Hulk in third place.
The victory was Diamond Thunder’s fourth from six starts and continued a run of success for his trainer Mark Newnham.
Diamond Thunder, the first foal of the Lonhro mare Kwinana, fetched A$135,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale.
Dawn Approach stood the most recent northern-hemisphere breeding season at Kildangan Stud, Ireland.
