For the second day running, a Darley-sired yearling occupied the top spot at Doncaster’s St Leger Yearling Sale when the sole Elusive Quality offering in the catalogue sold for £145,000.
The colt, consigned by Grove Stud in Ireland, is out of the G3 Molecomb Stakes winner Sahara Star (Green Desert) and is a half-brother to the G2 Flying Childers winner Land Of Dreams, by Cadeaux Genereux. He is destined to be trained by John Gosden, who has done so well with another Elusive Quality colt, Raven’s Pass, winner of last weekend’s G2 Celebration Mile.
Exceed And Excel once again featured among the top lots when a grey colt out of dual winner Silver Chime (Robellino) fetched £100,000 when selling to Durham-based trainer Howard Johnson.
Shamardal has his first northern hemisphere-bred yearlings on offer this autumn and Blandford Bloodstock signed for one of his first-crop sons to the tune of £88,000. The chestnut colt is out of the Lion Cavern mare Tee Cee and is a half-brother to three winners.
Irish trainer David Wachman took home a Royal Applause colt out of Razzle Dazzle (Caerleon) from the Fernham Farm consignment with a bid of £80,000.
A colt by leading freshman sire Kheleyf had fetched £100,000 on the opening day and his stock was in demand again on Wednesday when Gill Richardson went to £75,000 for a colt out of Someone’s Angel (Runaway Groom), consigned by Hall Farm Stud.
The sales concludes on Thursday.
