As the market stepped up a gear, the progeny of Darley sires featured prominently on the second day of trade at Tattersalls’ Foal Sale in Newmarket.
Exceed And Excel and Dubawi were responsible for two each of the top six lots, with a filly by Excelebration’s sire selling to Julie Wood under the Woodstock banner for 135,000gns. The first foal of the Montjeu mare Holamo, the January-foaled filly was offered by Newsells Park Stud.
Another Exceed And Excel foal to find favour was the Langton Stud-consigned colt out of the winning Rossini mare Miss Chaussini, who sold for 100,000gns to Ballysax Bloodstock.
From the first two days of the sale, ten Exceed And Excel foals have sold for an average of 60,500gns and a median of 53,000gns.
Tweenhills Stud consigned a Dubawi filly out of Tropical Breeze, by Kris, who sold for 120,000gns, while a colt by the same sire out of Come What May (Selkirk) was knocked down for 90,000gns.
Dubawi’s average, for three foals sold in the first two sessions, is 82,667gns and his median price is 90,000gns.
Also popular were foals by Royal Applause, with three colts making the top ten lots sold on the day when changing hands for 85,000gns, 84,000gns and 82,000gns respectively.
