Dubawi sired a new Group winner on Saturday, 7 March when his son Wafy landed the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal. Run over 1200m on Meydan’s dirt course, Wafy struggled to go the early pace but found his stride in the straight, coming with an amazing late run to just deny Leading Spirit (Exceed And Excel) near the line.
Bred by Shadwell, Wafi is from the extended family of Height Of Fashion, dam of the great Nashwan, and out of the 1,000 Guineas heroine Ghanaati.
Dubawi has now sired five Group winners in 2020, level with Exceed And Excel amongst European stallions. They are headed by Benbatl, Ghaiyyath and Glorious Journey, all of whom will be heading for G1’s on Dubai World Cup night.
