Four-year-old Exceed And Excel colt Cotai Glory has been right up there with the best sprinters in Europe this season, finishing just a quarter of a length behind Profitable in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes and fourth in the G1 Nunthorpe, and on 17 September he added a third Black type victory to his record in the G3 World Trophy at Newbury.
Breaking smartly under George Baker, Cotai Glory was settled just off the pace before being asked to quicken once inside the final two furlongs. Responding instantly, the Charlie Hills-trained colt soon moved to the front and saw off a strong challenge from Alpha Denini (winner of his last three starts) to take the five-furlong contest by a short head.
Cotai Glory was bred by Glebe Stud, J F Dean and Lady Trenchard and is out of the unraced Elusive Quality mare Continua, also dam of Stakes-placed Exceed And Excel filly Excel’s Beauty, plus Newmarket winner Permission (Authorized).
Exceed And Excel has now sired 20 individual Stakes winners in 2016, headed by multiple G1 winner Flamberge. Only yesterday, he added a new Group winner when Chetwood took the G3 Cameron Handicap at Newcastle, Australia.
