Cause for Celebration!
Dubawi’s purple patch continued in fine style on 24 August, with the outstanding sire adding a second G2 winner in as many days when Afsare ran out the two-length winner of the Celebration Mile at Goodwood.
Luca Cumani’s charge has shown considerable talent in the past and once he was safely in the stalls and the race was underway, he was always travelling well under Andrea Atzeni. As the field began to quicken, he momentarily looked to be short of racing room however once a gap opened up on the rail, he soon cruised to the front and quickly opened up a clear lead, running on superbly to win by two lengths.
This was his fourth career Black type victory and speaking after the race, Sara Cumani indicated that the G1 QEII Stakes could be a possible target. Should he go on to win Europe’s premier mile contest, he will be emulating his paternal half-brother Poet's Voice, who also took the Celebration Mile before his tremendous success at Ascot.
Owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum, Afsare is out of the winning Fairy King mare Jumaireyah, whose half-sister Zeeba has also enjoyed success with Dubawi courtesy of Group winner and yesterday’s Strensall Stakes second, Danadana.
Dubawi, who has four yearlings entered in the Goffs Orby Sale and a further ten yearlings catalogued at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Part 1, is sire of 16 individual Stakes winners so far this year, including nine who have won at G1 or G2 level.
