On the third day of Tattersalls’ December Foal Sale, much of the interest was focused on the first foals by Cape Cross’s outstanding son Sea The Stars but the offspring of the Darley stallions continued to make their presence felt with plenty of six-figure transactions.
The first runners by New Approach take to the track next year and, following an excellent reception for his yearlings, the Derby winner's second-crop foals have also sold well. Three changed hands during the third session at Tattersalls for an average of 158,333gns and top price of 300,000gns for a filly out of the Nureyev mare Pine Chip, who was bought by Meridian International.
Usk Valley Stud sold a daughter of Dubawi out of the Alzao mare Dodo for 240,000gns, while Aran Bloodstock went to 160,000gns for a Dubawi colt out of Starchy, a full-sister to the dam of Cartier Sprinter of the Year, Dream Ahead. With 15 lots sold over three days, Dubawi’s foals recorded an average of 90,200gns.
Teofilo, whose first-crop runners include Dewhurst hero Parish Hall, has had ten foals sell for an average of 59,000gns, with best price paid for a Ringfort Stud-consigned colt out of Changeable, who was knocked down for 150,000gns.
A Raven’s Pass half-brother to Stimulation sold for 140,000gns, and the three foals sold by the young sire in the first three sessions have posted an average of 84,667gns.
The dispersal of the late David Hardisty’s bloodstock included a filly foal by Cape Cross, a half-sister to this year’s Oh So Sharp Stakes winner Alsindi, who sold for 130,000gns to Knockenduff Stud. The sale average for the sire stands at 78,000gns for five sold.
Exceed And Excel’s offspring have been popular throughout the sales season and the foal auction was no exception, with 17 selling for an average of 59,706gns. Top price among these was the 110,000gns paid by Shadwell to secure a strong colt out of the Mark Of Esteem mare Esteemed Lady, consigned by the Swinburn family’s Genesis Green Stud.
