Dubawi sired a new G1 classic winner on Sunday, 11 September when Eldar Eldarov was the brilliant winner of the G1 St Leger at Doncaster for owner KHK Racing Ltd.
The Roger Varian-trained three-year-old who was ridden by David Egan and was having his first ride in the world’s oldest classic, had the colt settled in mid-field and although he was slightly hampered over two furlongs out he made good headway down the centre of the track before leading inside the final furlong to go clear to win by two lengths from Haskoy who was later demoted to fourth, whilst New London (Dubawi) who finished third was promoted to second after interference.
The lightly-raced colt has now won four from five starts including becoming Dubawi’s 150th individual Group winner when landing the G2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot. He holds entries for the G2 British Champions Long Distance Cup but could head to Australia as he holds an entry for the G1 Melbourne Cup.
Eldar Eldarov was bred by Kirsten Rausing, he is the third foal out of the Sea The Stars Stakes-winning mare, All At Sea, herself a daughter of multiple G1 winner Albanova.
Dubawi’s exceptional season continues, he has now sired 37 Stakes winners, seven have won at the highest level, including Coroebus and Modern Games, winners of the English and French 2,000 Guineas, Naval Crown (G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot) and Rebel’s Romance who won his first G1 race in Germany last month.
