Boxing Day double for Dubawi
Dubawi enjoyed a successful day on 26 December in both Australia and in Qatar when Dubawi Gold and Dubday each won Stakes races.
Dubawi Gold became his sire’s 28th Stakes winner of 2013, claiming the Listed Christmas Handicap over 7f at Morphettville, South Australia, December 26. This was Dubawi Gold’s first win at Stakes level and it came with a tough front-running effort, with him fighting off several challengers in the straight to win by a nose.
Bred by Ian Bell’s Campolina Pty Ltd, who races the horse in partnership, Dubawi Gold is the second Stakes winner for Export Price mare Export Gold, a winner of the Listed Debutant Stakes as a two-year-old.
Later on the same day, three-year-old colt Dubday stormed to victory in the Qatar Thoroughbred Derby, sprinting home in impressive fashion to win the ten-furlong contest by two lengths. Previously second in a German Group contest, this was his first win at this level.
Bred by South Court Stud, Dubday is out of the winning Daylami mare Dayrose, herself a half-sister to Rambling Rose - dam of multiple G1 winner Notnowcato.
Dubawi, who will stand at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 Oct 1st SLF in 2014, has enjoyed another tremendous season, siring 18 individual Group winners -five of whom have won at G1 level.
