Bonfire burns bright

Son of Manduro becomes his sire’s third winner

Manduro’s juvenile son Bonfire justified his lofty reputation on Wednesday September 28, when making an impressive winning debut at Salisbury. Well-supported throughout the day, he was sent off favourite for the mile contest and making headway two-furlongs from home, he ran out an easy two-length victor.

Bred by Highclere Stud and Floors Farming, he is a half-brother to Joviality (Cape Cross), winner of this season’s G3 Musidora Stakes at York. His dam Night Frolic (Night Shift), a winner over a mile as a three-year-old, hails from the family of Group-scorers Karen’s Caper, Miss Coronado and Miss Satamixa.

An unbeaten Champion as a juvenile, Manduro progressed to become the world's best in 2007 when completing a G1 treble in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, Prix Jacques le Marois and Prix d'Ispahan. Bonfire becomes his third winner after the impressive Maiden winners; Salez, last seen when a close fourth in the Listed Criterium de l’Ouest in France, and Kolonel, unbeaten in one start and entered in Germany’s top juvenile contest, the G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten.
