Bastille Day glory for Dubawi
Dubawi sired his eighth individual G1 winner of the year on Bastille Day in France when his star three-year-old son Erupt ran out the authoritative winner of the Grand Prix de Paris. Heading into the race unbeaten in three starts after victories in the G3 Prix du Lys and the Listed Coupe de Trois Ans, he was held up in third early and taking up the running at the top of the straight, he only had to nudged out to record a two length victory.
A Niarchos Family homebred, Erupt is a son of the G3-winning dam Mare Nostrum (Caerleon), who was also placed in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary and G1 Prix Vermeille. Mare Nostrum has produced four winners to date including the Stakes winner Marie de Medici (already the dam of G3 UAE Oaks winner Local Time) and Cape Cross’s multiple winner Roman Republic.
Dubawi has now sired the winner of both of France’s major three-year-old middle distances races in 2015, after New Bay’s easy Prix du Jockey Club victory at the end of May. His other six G1 winners this year include Lockinge Stakes hero Night Of Thunder, Dubai World Cup winner Prince Bishop and the evergreen Al Kazeem, winner of his second Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. Dubawi's total of eight G1 winners is double the number of any other stallion in the world this season.
