Back-to-back wins in the Chairman’s Sprint Prize for Lucky Nine

Dubawi’s high-earning G1-winning son Lucky Nine recorded his second consecutive win in the Chairman’s Sprint Prize (a local G1 contest) at Sha Tin on 16 February.

After missing the break, jockey Brett Prebble soon had Lucky Nine back in the mix, racing in midfield and just off the rail. Asked to quicken once inside the final two furlongs, Lucky Nine demonstrated his trademark grit and determination, sweeping home to win by a neck.

Also the winner of last year’s G1 Krisflyer International Sprint and the coveted G1 Hong Kong Sprint in 2011, this was his 13th career victory. His future options include remaining in Hong Kong for a tilt at a second win in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup, or a possible trip to Dubai or Japan.

Bred in Ireland by Darley, Lucky Nine is out of the Green Desert mare Birjand, a cross that has also produced Group winners Makfi and Dubawi Gold. Birjand, also dam of two further Stakes performers in Teehaff and Sudden Storm (both by Storming Home) is due to produce another foal by Dubawi next month.

Dubawi has now sired six Stakes winners in 2014 including recent G2 winners Prince Bishop and Catkins. He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 October 1st Special Live Foal.
