Cape Cross, who is set to be represented in the Oaks on Friday by Cape Amber and Saphira's Fire, notched another stakes winner on Wednesday when Yarastar romped to victory in the ten-furlong Prix Melisande at Fontainebleu in France.
Bred by Lady Chryss O'Reilly's Castlemartin Stud and Ecurie Slymarc Farm, the three-year-old filly is out of Yara, by Sri Pekan, and raced initially in Ireland, where she won at two for Kevin Prendergast before switching to France and trainer Henri-Alec Pantall.
Yarastar has already gathered some black type when a close up third on her previous start in the Listed Prix Georges Tabaud at Marseille Borely. She is a half-sister to Listed winner Emirates Gold (Royal Applause), who raced in the UK for Godolphin and is now based in Dubai.
Cape Cross's stakes winners this season include G3 winner Sabana Perdida and the aforementioned Saphira's Fire, who won the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket, the race won by another of his daughters Ouija Board en route to dual Oaks glory.
