Khukri, who had shown excellent potential when placed on his previous two starts at the Curragh, gained a valuable first victory on Thursday 22 September. The son of Sepoy was always travelling well under Colm O’Donoghue and after effortlessly going clear a furlong from home, only had to be nudged out to win by half-a-length with a gaping five lengths back to the third.
Bred by Diomed Bloodstock Ltd, Khukri is a half-brother to two Stakes winners in That Is The Spirit and Mischief Making. His dam, the Acatenango mare Fraulein, won the G1 E P Taylor Stakes in Canada and is a relative of the top German performers Anna Paola and Aspros.
Now the sire of 11 European winners, Sepoy has a high number of impressive performers already. Leading the way are the Stakes winners Kilmah and Baileys Showgirl, with the highly-rated multiple winners Dabyah and Phijee likely to step up into Group company on their next starts.
Also on Thursday, Casamento's daughter Paiardina became the latest successful runner for her first-season sire when winning first time out in Florence, Italy.
Paiardina was bred by Mrs C Hartery and J Dewberry and is out of the multiple winner Sinful Pleasure.
Casamento is now sire of ten individual winners, eight of whom are rated 80+ by Timeform.
