Exceed And Excel’s world-beating reputation as a sire of juveniles received yet another boost at Flemington on Saturday, 16 February when Microphone scored brilliantly in the Listed Talindert Stakes.
The win, Microphone’s second from his three starts, earned him a place in next month’s G1 Golden Slipper Stakes, the world’s richest two-year-old race.
For Exceed And Excel the win took his tally of Stakes winners to 156, placing Microphone among some of Australia’s best juveniles of the past decade, many of which were raced by Sheikh Mohammed.
It is a group that includes the Golden Slipper winner Overreach, G1 Blue Diamond winner Earthquake, the champion filly and four-time G1 winner Guelph, the G1 winner and sire Helmet as well as the international G1 winners Amber Sky and Mr Stunning.
Microphone had the Talindert under control from the halfway point, cruising to the lead at the 300m and powering to a 2-1/4 length win from Talented and Charleise.
Trainer James Cummings will now return the colt to Godolphin’s Sydney base to continue his Golden Slipper preparation.
Microphone is out of the Stakes winner Sung who is a sister to the G1-winning sprinter Yell.
Exceed And Excel stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000, Oct 1, SLF.
