Al Kazeem cruises to victory in the G2 Jockey Club Stakes
Dubawi’s four-year-old son Al Kazeem took the first of the feature races on the 2,000 Guineas card at Newmarket in impressive fashion, landing a competitive renewal of the G2 Jockey Club Stakes by four and a half lengths.
Settled in second last under James Doyle, the Roger Charlton-trained colt improved to third position with four furlongs left to run and taking the lead two furlongs out, was soon clear and won going away.
Al Kazeem beat a high-class field that included St Leger winner Masked Marvel, Melbourne Cup and Hong Kong Vase winner Dunaden, plus Slickly’s G1 Grand Prix de Paris winner Meandre who finished fourth. This was his third victory in a career that has seen him finish out of the first two just once in eight starts. His trainer indicated after the race that a further step up in class is likely, with a tilt at the G1 Coronation Cup possibly his next start.
Owned and bred by John and Mrs Deer, Al Kazeem is out of the Darshaan mare Kazeem, herself a daughter of G1 performer Kanz. They are from the family of Champions Glint of Gold, Diamond Shoal and Catella.
Dubawi is enjoying another outstanding year, siring eight Stakes winners so far in 2012 including Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso.
