Benbatl, Dubawi’s brilliant globetrotting son, landed his 10th Group race on Friday, 24 September when victorious in the G2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket. Appreciating the fast ground, he was always prominent and battled gamely to overhaul the long-time leader Pogo, with his paternal half-brother Master Of The Seas a close third.
Repeating his triumph in this race two years ago, Benbatl has also won three G1’s in three separate continents including the Dubai Turf and Caulfield Stakes.
Benbatl is the first foal of the Selkirk mare Nahrain, who twice scored at the highest level in the Prix de l’Opera and Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes. His full-sister, the four-year-old filly Fooraat, has been placed four times at Stakes level including earlier in the afternoon when third in the Listed Rosemary Stakes.
With 30 Stakes winners and 19 Group winners in 2021, Dubawi leads all global stallions. They include seven just this month including G1-winning juvenile Albahr, G2 Park Stakes hero Glorious Journey, and two-year-old colt Modern Games, winner of G3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes yesterday at Newmarket.
