Birr Castle, a first-crop son of Cloth Of Stars, recorded his maiden Stakes victory on Monday, 24 July in the Listed Prix Pelleas at Compiegne. Run over 2000m, the Andre Fabre-trained colt tracked the pace before asserting in the final 200m to comfortably win going away.
Bred by Francois Rohaut and a €170,000 yearling purchase, Birr Castle is a half-brother to two Stakes winners in King Shalaa and Waltham. His dam, the Turtle Bowl mare Baki, is a half-sister the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches second Baine.
Cloth Of Stars, the first colt home in two Arc’s, has now sired two Stakes performers in France this month after his juvenile daughter Maymay was placed in the Listed Prix Roland de Chambure at Deauville. His first crop has also performed well over hurdles in their fledgling three-year-old season with Garibaldi winning in France and Max Of Stars winning his second race just yesterday in England.
Earlier in the card Blue Point sired his 20th individual winner when Shady Lady won easily by one-and-three-quarter lengths over 1400m.
Bred by Scea Marmion Vauville and A Jathiere, she was a €80,000 yearling, and her dam Akrivi is a half-sister to multiple G1-winning juvenile Dutch Art.
Blue Point has now sired four winners from only six runners in France.
