First-season sire Cloth Of Stars added a new winner to his record on Wednesday, 14 September when his son Birr Castle posted a convincing victory at Compiegne.
Breaking smartly from the stalls under Mickael Barzalona, Birr Castle was soon in front and travelled well throughout the one-mile contest. Once asked to quicken with two furlongs left to run, the Godolphin colt picked up well and was never seriously challenged, eventually winning by three quarters of a length.
Birr Castle was bred by Francois Rohaut and was bought by Anthony Stroud for €170,000 at last year’s Arqana October Sale. He is out of the multiple winner Baki, dam of two Black Type winners to date in King Shalaa and Waltham. They are from the extended family of G1 winners Balbonella and her top-flight performers Anabaa and Always Loyal.
Cloth Of Stars was a European Champion and G1 juvenile, by Sea The Stars and is from the family of Ulysses. He stands at Haras du Logis in Normandy.
