First-season sire Pinatubo added a new winner to his record in very striking style on Monday, 28 October when his daughter Texas Starlight cruised to victory in the Fillies’ Novice at Southwell.
Always prominent under Jason Watson, George Boughey’s charge took the lead a furlong from home and was soon clear, easing down approaching the line to win by three lengths.
Texas Starlight was bred by Haras d'Etreham and Riviera Equinea et al. She is out of the winning Montjeu mare Fresh Air, herself a half-sister to the G2-placed Stakes winner Barsanti, and Bird Flown – dam of Irish 2,000 Guineas and G1 Phoenix Stakes winner Siskin. Another of her half-sisters is Rising Tornado, who produced US Champion and five-time G1 winner Close Hatches.
Pinatubo is now sire of 18 individual winners including the Group-placed duo Cavallo Bay and Wolf Of Badenoch, plus fellow Black Type performers Basalt and Qilin Queen.
His second-crop yearlings have sold for up to 375,000 guineas and his lifetime average stands at £118,000.
