First Stakes winner for Pinatubo

Tipinso lands Criterium du Languedoc at Toulouse

First-season sire Pinatubo added a first Black Type winner to his record on Monday, 11 November when his son Tipinso flew down the home straight at Toulouse to claim the Listed Criterium du Languedoc.

Settled third from last during the early stages of the one-mile contest, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt came widest of all round the turn and accelerated superbly in the straight to collar Lady Majesty on the line and win by a nose.

This was the third consecutive victory for Tipinso, who broke his maiden at Vichy in August before winning over today’s course and distance on 18 September.

Tipinso was bred by Haras de Montaigu and Ecurie Haras du Cadran and is out of the unraced Makfi mare Makeba, herself a daughter of G1 winner Molly Malone. Makeba is also dam of Blue Point’s multiple winner Mondrial.

Pinatubo is now sire of five individual Black Type performers, including G2 Vintage runner-up Wolf of Badenoch. He also has Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes winner Hallasan, plus the unbeaten colt Nizam, who won again on Friday.

Pinatubo stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £30,000, Oct 1, SLF.
