Last year’s Champion first-season sire, Blue Point, is having another successful year with nine Black Type winners on the board, so far. One those is his juvenile daughter, Sky Majesty from this second crop, who on Saturday, 12 October recorded a second Group victory when landing the G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte at Chantilly, France. This filly continues to progress through the ranks and is now unbeaten in three starts from as many runs.
Trained by William Haggas for the partnership of Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, Sky Majesty, who prevailed by a neck to win the G2 First of Clyde Stakes last month, tracked the leaders in third before making steady progress with just under 300m to run. She took up the running inside the final 200m and ran on well in the heavy conditions to win by a length and a quarter from Daylight (Earthlight), who finished second.
Bred in Ireland by Mountarmstrong Stud, Sky Majesty was a Tattersalls October Yearling Book 2 purchase. She is one of six winners out of the Stakes-placed mare, Majestic Alexander (Bushranger), herself a half-sister to Black Type winners Majestic Missile and Santo Padre.
Blue Point’s Black Type winners are headed by his Classic-winning son Rosallion, who is now the winner of three G1 races – Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere last year, whilst this year he has won the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas and G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
