Raven’s Pass on top at Goffs

Filly by the talented young sire sells for €520,000 on a successful day for the Darley stallions

The first day’s trading at the Goffs Orby Sale proved to be very successful for the Darley stallions, with Raven's Pass responsible for the highest-priced lot of the day and a filly by Dubawi becoming the third most expensive yearling to pass through the ring.

Shadwell Stud had to go to €520,000 to secure a Raven’s Pass filly out of multiple Stakes winner Albisola, consigned by Knocktoran Stud as part of the Citadel Stud dispersal. Albisola is herself a half-sister to Tonnara – dam of last year’s G1 St James’s Palace Stakes winner Most Improved.

Earlier in the session, a well-bred filly by Dubawi offered by Kilcarn Stud was bought by John Ferguson for €380,000. She is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Watership Crystal, a full sister to Group winner Dubai Success and a half-sister to a further four Black type performers including G1 winner Crystal Music.

There was also success for Shamardal, when McKeever Bloodstock bought a full-brother to his G1-winning son and fellow Darley stallion Casamento for €260,000.

Teofilo averaged a very healthy €155,000 on the day, with his highest price coming courtesy of Kilcarn Stud’s colt out of Quixotic (a full sister to G1 winner Virtual), who was purchased by Hugo Merry for €230,000.

Progeny of Iffraaj were also in demand following his recent run of success on the racecourse, and he was responsible for two six-figure lots on the day. Anthony Stroud went to €160,000 to secure Mountarmstrong Stud’s colt out of Group performer Alexander Youth, herself a half-sister to Moss Vale.

The sale continues today.
