Prince takes the Silver at Pontefract

Two-year-old son of Dubawi lands Silver Tankard Stakes, Teofilo’s Princess is second

Dubawi’s fantastic year is continuing well into the autumn and following G1 places for both Al Kazeem and Night Of Thunder on Champions’ Day at the weekend, he added a new juvenile Stakes winner to his already impressive record when Prince Gagarin won the Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract.

The Ed Dunlop-trained colt took the one-mile contest by two and a quarter lengths from progressive Teofilo filly Teofilo’s Princess, who was adding her first Black type.

Bred by Windflower Overseas, Prince Gagarin is out of the winning Sadler’s Wells mare Cara Fantasy, making him a half-brother to Elusive Quality’s G1 Racing Post Trophy second and Craven Stakes winner Elusive Pimpernel. He is also half-brother to another Stakes winner in Palavicini.

Dubawi, sire of no fewer than five G1 winners this year including the aforementioned Night Of Thunder, became the fastest stallion ever to reach 50 Group winners earlier this year. He has also enjoyed tremendous success at the sales, averaging over 650,000 guineas during Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1. He is also responsible for the highest price so far at the Arqana October Yearling Sale, which started today.
